Compare Phillips' new AmbientLED Bulb to CFLs

vs.

Just read on Inhabitat about the new Phillips AmbientLED light bulbs. They last way longer than CFLs, and with no mercury to worry about! Excellent!

I wanted to compare the energy and lifespan specs on The AmbientLED and an equivalent CFL bulb:

CFL
Light output: 900 Lumens
Energy used: 14 watts
Life hours: 10,000 hours

AmbientLED
Light output: 800 Lumens
Energy used: 12 W (consumes a little less energy)
Average Life hours: 25000 hours (lasts way longer)

See for yourself:

CFL

AmbientLED

Alice Wu of Feral Childe talks about Chinese manufacturing

Check out this article on EcoSalon. Alice Wu of the sustainable fashion company Feral Childe, sounds off about the way manufacturing in China is viewed in the environmentalist community.

Help Protect NYC's Community Gardens!

Did you know that the law protecting NYC's community gardens from being taken over by developers is about to expire?

City officials are working on new rules to protect the gardens, but unless we speak up, those rules may not be strong enough.

I just signed this petition calling on Mayor Bloomberg and City officials to make sure that the new rules PERMANENTLY PROTECT our community gardens from development. Can you take a moment to sign, too?

The Mermaid Parade and BP protests

I checked out the Mermaid Parade in Coney Island yesterday with friends. It was great!

This year there were also several somber (and necessary) reminders of what's going on with the BP oil spill in the gulf:
